What is 730 Intersection?
730 Intersection is a wide intersection in the center of downtown Ishigaki Island where Route 390, City Hall Street, and Pier Street intersect. The 730 intersection is the westernmost national highway intersection in Japan, located in the center of the city center. The name 730 Intersection was given to this intersection to commemorate the change from right-of-way to left-of-way on July 30, 1978, when Okinawa was returned to Japan. 730 Seasar Park is a monument along the sidewalk in front of 730 Intersection. Originally named the 730 Monument, the name was changed to 730 Sea Sea Park to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the monument's construction, with two Shi-sa statues on either side. The name was given to the park because the lion that is the Shi Shi is called Shi Shi.
From the 730 intersection, the northern direction leads toward Shinkawa, Nagura, and Kabira, where there are many sightseeing spots in Ishigaki Island. Around the city center in the northern direction, there are various stores where you can get everything you need for your trip. There is also Euglena Mall on the left with various stores, so be sure to check it out!
