What is Tamatorizaki Observatory?
Tamatorizaki Observatory is located in the northeast of Ishigaki Island and offers one of the best views in Ishigaki Island. It takes only a few minutes from the parking lot to the top of the observatory, so it is crowded with many tourists and locals every day.
This observatory faces the ocean to the east and is famous for its beautiful sunrises. The path from the parking lot to the observatory is vegetated with hibiscus and palm trees, providing a resort-like atmosphere. The area around the observatory is a small hill, so you can see not only the ocean but also the land. From this observatory, you can also see Hirakubo Peninsula, which is called "Seesaa's Tail," on the left side with the ocean in front of it.
Directions to Tamatorizaki Observatory
Access by car
Tamatorizaki Observatory is located in the eastern part of Ishigaki Island. It takes about 40 minutes by car from the city center and about 20 minutes from Shin-Ishigaki Airport. After leaving Shin-Ishigakijima Airport, take Route 390 north toward Ibaruma, and you will see it on your right. The same route can be taken when accessing from the city center by taking Route 390. There are two parking lots at Tamatorizaki, one on the ocean side and the other on the mountain side. The ocean side can accommodate 10 small cars and 1 large bus, while the mountain side can park 25 small cars and 5 large buses.
If you come by car, we recommend that you park on the mountain side near the observatory, as the parking lot is never full unless it is the busy season. The mountain-side parking lot is a good place to take a break, as it has a restroom with a tropical red-tile roof and four vending machines!
Access by bus
Take the Hirano Line or the eastbound round trip line, ride for about 55 minutes, and get off at the "Tamatorizaki" bus stop. After getting off the bus, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the observatory. The interval between buses is only one every few hours, so it is essential to check the schedule in advance.

The Tamatorizaki Observatory has several separate walking paths leading from the parking lot to the top of the observatory. The first is the shortest path to the top. Its proximity to the observatory also makes it a great location from which to view Ibaruma Bay.

Uli'uli'uli Cafe is located near the ocean-side parking lot of Tamatorizaki Observatory.
Western-style dishes utilizing ingredients from Ishigaki Island are popular. Especially, Uli'uli burger with Ishigaki beef and homemade buns, Ishigaki beef suji meat curry, etc. are very popular.
After the food is sold out, only drinks and sweets will be served, but it is a very luxurious time to have a relaxing tea while enjoying the spectacular view.

How to Play at Tamatorizaki Observatory
The best way to enjoy Tamatorizaki Observatory is to enjoy the spectacular view.
This observatory faces the sea in the eastern part of Ishigaki Island, so you can see the whole eastern side of the sea, and it is a place crowded with tourists all year round. It is a good place to enjoy the magnificent view with tropical hibiscus and palm trees by your side.
Especially popular is the Hirakubo Peninsula that extends to the left of the observatory. It is affectionately called "Shi-sa's tail" because it is chorogi like Shi-sa's tail. You can see the East China Sea on the left side of such a beautiful Shisa's tail and the Pacific Ocean on the right side. The Pacific Ocean River is covered with coral reefs, and the emerald green sea is filled with colorful corals.
