About Ibaruma Sabichi Cave
Ibaruma Cave is the only cave in Japan located in the northern part of Ishigaki Island that leads to the sea, and is said to have been created by a revision uplift 370 million years ago. At the entrance of the cave, there is a pond said to be filled with giant eels, and Yaeyama ware pots and jars used in the past to preserve pork in salt are placed.
Beyond the cave where bats fly around, there is a beautiful stretch of ocean and a rock shaped like a turtle that is known as a power spot and is inhabited by a god. At low tide, the footholds dry out and it is possible to walk around the cave, but this is not possible at high tide, so be sure to visit when the tide is high or low.

More information about Ibaruma Sabichi Cave
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, Ibaruma Sabichi Cave is the only cave in Japan that leads to the sea, located on the west coast of Nosoko Peninsula in the northeast of Ishigaki Island, and is said to be a limestone cave that was created around 370 million years ago when Ishigaki Island was created by underwater upheaval.
At the entrance is a pond said to be the habitat of giant eels, and there is a signboard cat at the store near the entrance. Inside the cave, the ceiling is more than 10 meters high and the space is spacious. In addition to stone pillars, stalagmites, icicles, cave corals, and helicites, fossils of tabanes corals and giant clams, which are believed to have lived in the sea in the past, have been excavated, making the cave very valuable from a scientific viewpoint.
The high ceilings are covered with huge icicles, named "Niagara Falls," "Parthenon," "Sphinx," etc., after the shapes of the stalactites. You will be able to enjoy the names and shapes of the stalactites.
How to Play at Ibaruma Sabichi Cave
Ibaruma Beach is a limestone cave that is full of fun even before you enter, with a pond at the entrance and a signboard cat at the store. It is located near Hirakubozaki, about 40 minutes by car from the city center and the remote island terminal, so you can enjoy a drive on the way. As described in detail in Ibaruma Sabichi-do Cave, there are many sights to see such as icicles, stalactites, and exhibits in the cave. After all, the emerald green sea covers the entire field of view when you exit the cave after a 10-minute drive.
The open view is an experience that you cannot experience in other caves in Ishigaki Island such as Ishigakijima Cave, Yaeyama Cave, and Ao no Doukutsu (Blue Cave). At the exit to the sea, there is a power spot called the rock where God resides, so please look for it. The path inside the cave is divided into left and right, and if you go to the right, you will find many oddly shaped rocks called "strange rocks," so you can look for any kind of rock. The left and right routes have very different atmospheres, so we recommend that you take a walk along both paths.
