What is Tadahama Beach?
Tadahama Beach is a natural beach located in Maesato area in southern Ishigaki Island. Since it is connected to "Maesato Beach" which is also known as an artificial beach, at first glance, it is often thought that both are Maesato Beach, but there is no strict difference. The west side is called Tadahama Beach. You can access the beach from Maesato Beach, but there is also an entrance dedicated to Tadahama Beach, which is easily accessible by passing by the golf course near the parking space. Directions to Tadahama Beach
Tadahama Beach, like Maesato Beach, is located at the southern end of the island. Therefore, it can basically be accessed by going south. There is a parking lot, so it can be accessed by car or bus.
Access by car
Continue south on Route 390. You will see Daiei on your right. Turn left at the second intersection, Maesato (North), after the Daiei. Go straight the rest of the way and you will arrive at the parking lot.
Access by bus
To get to Tadahama Beach by local bus, take route 4 (Airport Line via Hiratoku, Ohama, and Shiraho) or route 10 (Airport Line via Art Hotel and ANA) and get off at the Hiratoku Higashi bus stop. From there, walk south for about 10 minutes.

Tadahama Beach is a coral beach next to Maesato Beach. Because it is a natural beach, it is not maintained at all, and the footholds are rocky in some places, so please walk carefully. You can find beautiful sand and coral as pieces of coral often wash ashore. However, you are not allowed to take the sand and coral back home with you. At low tide, visitors can walk along the reef to the offshore area and play on the rocky shore. At the entrance to Tada Beach, there is a shrine called "Tada Utaki. Utaki is a kind of shrine and is considered a sacred place where the gods come down.
Tada Utaki, also called Tadaon, is a shrine loved by many locals. It is a sacred place where a festival called the "Seed-removal Festival" is held every year, so as a matter of course, do not pollute the sea or destroy the coral.

How to play at Tadahama Beach
When playing at Tadahama Beach, beachcombing, playing on the shore, and admiring the scenery are examples. Do not engage in marine activities. The tides are so fast that swimming is prohibited and tours are not offered, so do not enter the ocean to do any activities. At low tide, you can walk along the shore to the offshore area and observe the coral and other creatures left behind by the ebb tide. You can also enjoy beachcombing as there is a lot of flotsam and jetsam, and broken coral is often washed up on the beach. However, as mentioned above, quarrying is prohibited.
The beach in front of the sacred Tada Utaki is a place for locals to enjoy the bounty of the sea, including ebb and flow fishing. For this reason, it is forbidden to take stones or coral home without permission. Even if you don't take them home, you can enjoy just observing the various items. At night, you can see the sky full of stars. The Summer Triangle and the Milky Way can be seen visually, so it is good to look for them.
